About James

I am the only Democratic candidate for City Council in the 20th who was born and raised in Flushing.
I served in the United States Marine Corps - I enlisted the day after the shooting war started in Desert Storm.

I am devoted to public service, not for profit or power, but because I believe in helping people.

I am a civic leader, on the board of the Holly Civic, and on the Kissena Civic:

  • I have fought to help little leaguers have baseball fields they can play on.
  • I have fought for our parks and planted hundreds of trees.
  • I have fought for redistricting and testified for the boundaries of the 20th council, and the 22nd assembly.
  • I have fought for rezoning for Kissena, and balanced zoning for Waldheim.
  • I am fighting for the rezoning of Auburndale to respect the context of our communities.

I am an elected Democratic District Leader:

  • I have fought for better services for our community
  • I have fought for racial harmony in our diverse community
  • I came redrew election district lines to answer their complaints about the difficult to get to election poll site for the Nuns of St. Michael's to vote.
  • I helped establish 2 new voting sites in my district so voters could walk easily to the polls rather than trek a mile back and forth.
  • In 2007, I stood up and endorsed Barack Obama for president in the summer of 2007 because I believed in Democratic reform, I believed in his leadership, and I believed in him.
  • I am fighting for government to recognize that healthcare is a right, not a privilege, not a business proposition.

I am fighting to make our community a better place to live, to raise our children.
I am fighting for our kids to have the Best education, not struggle to keep up.
I am fighting for a better quality of life for all of us.
I am fighting for fair and honest government.

I am asking you to stand with me, to fight for a community we can all be proud of.
